Nurses, we’re listening...

What’s on the mind of Georgia’s trusted messengers? Tell us in our nationwide survey.

Hi, Atlanta!

As many as 45% of early-career nurses say they intend to leave the profession.

That's what I learned in my recent interview with Patricia Horton, founder of the Georgia Center for Nursing Excellence.

Some of their top concerns are stress, burnout, workload, inadequate salary, and workplace violence, Horton said. The center, which gathers data and insights about the state’s nursing workforce, offers a mentorship program to help keep them on the job

Georgia has just over 150,000 RNs, LPNs, and CNAs - but that’s not enough. There is also a shortage of faculty for training and of clinical training spots.

Nursing is one of the most trusted professions in America, and nurses are critical to delivering accurate health knowledge in a time of information overload. Nurses address issues like vaccine hesitancy by focusing on people’s individual concerns.

Healthbeat wants to know more about what information nurses need to do their jobs. What do they see as the most important health issues in the community? We’ve launched a nationwide survey to find out. Nurses, it only takes a few minutes to complete. As a thank you, five respondents will be chosen at random to win a gift card.

If you have nurses in your life, will you forward it to them?

Thank you!!

‘Treat Yo’ Self’: That’s the theme of Neighborhood Nexus’ upcoming Data Breakfast Club on July 22 at 8:30 a.m. What better way to survive the dog days of summer than with free donuts, coffee, and fellow data nerds? Neighborhood Nexus is Atlanta’s data nonprofit. Their quarterly breakfast club meetings are informal and fun. I’ll be there. You can register here.

The Grapevine 🍇

We did it! My brother, Sean, and I ran the Peachtree Road Race on July 4, and it was as much fun as I remember! One of the highlights was seeing Shepherd Center patients and workers handing out swag on the chug up Cardiac Hill. Here’s a photo of us after we finished.

What I’m hearing from readers:

What a great column! It almost made me want to jump on a plane and join the fun.
